| My name is Sofia Carrasco, and I am the intern for Youth v. Oil — SanDiego350’s youth team which has fought to protect communities from oil drilling and hold polluters accountable. And the momentum doesn’t stop this summer — in less than a month, we might have our biggest event yet. WHAT: People & Planet Over Profit Town Hall in support of a Polluters Pay Climate Superfund. WHEN: Saturday, June 27th from 12:00 to 2:30 pm. WHERE: National City. WHY: The Climate Superfund is a piece of state legislation that would hold the fossil fuel industry accountable for the climate damages it causes, collecting money to fund climate solutions. Laws like this are under threat by Republican lawmakers, who have proposed “blanket immunity” for the industry against lawsuits/accountability laws.At the town hall, you will have the chance to:Participate in climate-related workshops. Learn more about holding Big Oil accountable. Network with other environmental and justice organizations. Part educational, part community building, participants will learn about the threats and solutions facing the climate movement. Centering marginalized voices, we are working alongside a state coalition to stand up against corporate greed and envision a resilient future. We will offer free vegan lunch and Spanish/English translation services. |
