Wastewater Overflow
(Sonoma, CA) — Sonoma County Water Agency work crews responded to a wastewater overflow at the Russian River County Sanitation District’s treatment plant on March 21, 2011.

Estimated overflow: 900 gallons
Cause: Heavy rains
Environmental impacts: The wastewater overflowed into a forested area adjacent to the treatment plant used for recycled water irrigation and likely ran into the Russian River.
Health impacts: No immediate impacts due to high Russian River flows. The flow of the Russian River at the time of the overflow was 36, 200 cubic feet per second, or 269,000 gallons per second.
Notifications: The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Game, Sonoma County Health Services and Fire and Emergency Services were notified. The Water Agency also notified downstream potable water suppliers as a precaution, including Sweetwater Springs Water, Russian River Utility and Northwood Golf Course.
