I wanted to give you an update on our plan to defend the Clean Water Rule before the February 4th Congressional hearing.
As you know, this hearing is meant to set the stage for a vote to kill the rule, and it’s critical that we keep fighting and see that this rule over the finish line.
There are a couple of things you can do now, in advance of the hearing.
Use this script and data to make a call to your Senator and ask them to make a statement on February 4th firmly in support of the rule. Key targets are Senators on the Environment and Public Works Committee, or House members on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Engage your members, staff, and volunteers by asking them to make a phone call as well. Use the sample email below.

Clean Water under Attack in the U.S. Congress
Dear Member,
From [iconic waterway] to local streams, clean water is vital to our health, recreation, and wildlife. To protect clean water, U.S. EPA is currently considering a rule to restore Clean Water Act protections to thousands of waterways here in [STATE] and across the country.
But polluters and their allies are working to derail this clean water rule in Congress. A rare joint hearing of Congressional committees is now scheduled to review the rule on Wednesday February 4th. We know that Senator Inhofe, the Chairman of the Senate’s key environmental committee, is prepared to use all of his power to kill the rule. And this hearing is meant to set the stage for votes in the House and Senate to kill the rule.
We can’t let that happen. To successfully defend this rule all the way to the finish line, our members of Congress need to hear that the public wants protections for our waterways.
